A 54-year-old man tragically lost his life after he was not only knocked, but also run over by a vehicle on corner Flamingo Street and Agapanthus Avenue on Monday, May 16.
According to a witness and one of the first people on scene, the Corolla which was traveling on Flamingo Street, skipped a red robot before running over the man who was crossing the road.
“It was so horrible; the Corolla came at a high speed, knocked the man at the corner, his body was flung into the air before it came to a rest about 34 meters from where he was knocked. The same car then went over the man.
“The car hit a pole on the pavement, spun around a few times and came to a stop. Shortly thereafter, the car sped off,” said the witness.
Another driver who had also witnessed the accident, pursued the Corolla.
However, the driver, said to be a youngster, abandoned the vehicle in Hummingbird Avenue and attempted to flee on foot.
He was apprehended and taken to Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital as he claimed to be suffering from shock.
The victim was stabilised and transported by Saaberie Chishty Ambulance Services to the Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital, where he later died.
The deceased’s funeral was due to be held today, May 17.
