During a house robbery at a house at Zakariyya Park on March 31, one of the perpetrators threatened to rape a 5 month old baby girl but they thought it was a boy and only threatened to terrorise the family into co-operating more fervently.
According to the owner of the house, Ms Khan, in the early hours of Thursday morning, one of her daughters was woken by noises in the house. Upon closer investigation, she found one of three suspects in the house, while the other two still climbing over the trap door.
“She screamed and said “Mummy there are men in the house.” I woke up and ran to see what she was talking about but by that time, the three suspects were already in the house,” said Khan.
She and her daughter continued to scream and in order to keep them quiet, one of the suspects hit the daughter on her back with a gun.
“My other daughter with her husband and her five month old daughter were in the bedroom. When they heard the commotion, they tried closing the door but the trio was able to force it open,” Khan added.
The robbers then bound them and taped their mouths closed. The trio then demanded money and ransacked the house.
“The suspects thought that the five-month-old was a boy and kept saying that if he was a girl then they would rape him. One suspect also told my daughter that she is beautiful. “After ransacking the house, they told us that the money they had obtained was not enough and wanted more or they would harm the baby. “Fearful of the threat, , my daughter gave them her bank card with the correct pin,” she reiterated.
When the trio finished, they left the family in one room and left the toddler in the garden. The family was able to free themselves, contact the police and deactivate the bank card.
According to Khan, the suspects escaped with eight phones, two plasmas, and undisclosed amount of money and some kitchen appliances.
