A 42-year-old man saved his mother and domestic worker’s lives after they were held up by two armed men last Tuesday, March 1.
The incident unfolded when two armed men clad in huge jackets and balaclavas jumped over the boundary wall and grabbed the mother and the domestic, who were busy outside in the yard, and forced them into the house.
The son, who was in his bedroom, was alerted to the situation when he heard his mother screaming.
“At first, I thought they saw a snake or a mouse, but upon investigation I saw the men with the women in the kitchen. I quickly headed to my bedroom and grabbed my gun,” he said.
The son fired a shot at one of the thieves but the bullet bounced off the balaclava. The two then made a run for it while he (the son) continued to fire at them.
The family fears that robbers have come up with a method of wearing protective armour against bullets when committing the crime.
The suspects left their dagger at the scene.
Attempts have been made to contact Captain Hector Netshivhodza of the Lenasia SAPS for a comment. However, he could not be reached at the time of going to press.
