THE family of Sanjay Guruparsad (45) is seeking answers after he was killed on March 4 while visiting his son in Lenasia Extension 2.
Condolences never seemed to end following the murder. Guruparsad was the picture of a decent and caring person
who lived for his family.
Guruparsad, a father of three, originally from Johannesburg, returned after living for almost a decade in Estcourt, Kwa-Zulu Natal.
According to his sister, Rashree Maharaj, police have received conflicting versions of what happened on that fateful night, and while suspects have been identified, they still need a clearer picture of the incident.
“There is something critical that is missing, and the pieces just don’t seem to fit,” she said.
“The police have been trying their best, but we are now desperate for information from anyone that was there on the night or may have information to bring us some closure,” she pleaded.
Guruparsad’s son lived with his mother in Lenasia Extension 2. On the night in question, there had been a quarrel in the street outside his ex-wife’s house, and he went to investigate.
“A short while later, Guruparsad’s son heard him scream that he had been stabbed and rushed out to see what had happened. When he arrived, his father was lying on the ground. He tried to revive him but was unable to,” Rashree Maharaj said.
Guruparsad was taken to the closest medical facility, the Lenasia Extension 5 Clinic, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival.
“I received a call at around 9.30 pm saying someone needed to come and identify my son’s body. I panicked upon receiving this call,” said Guruparsad’s mother.
“Nobody is giving information about where the altercation originated or who could have done this. We need information so my son can receive the justice he deserves and closure as a family,” she added.
Guruparsad’s mother said her family was not taking the death well, especially after losing her husband. It is another loss to the family.
Guruparsad was one of four siblings.
Police are investigating a case of murder and call on anyone who might have information to contact the investigating officer, Victor Rikhotso on 067 768 9115.
