The Lenasia South SAPS has launched a manhunt for two armed suspects following a shooting that claimed the lives of two security guards at Noluthando’s Tavern during the early hours of Sunday, July 3.
According to Lenasia South SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Khalipha Mvula, an eye witness stated that the two suspects arrived at the tavern in Vlakfontein Extension 2 just before 02:00 and were prevented from entering the tavern after one of them was found to be in possession of a firearm. The refusal by the two security guards to grant access to the two armed men was met with anger. One of the men suddenly produced a firearm and fired gunshots at the two guards before fleeing from the scene on foot. One of the victims, aged 42, succumbed to a gunshot wound at the scene while the other victim, aged 35, declared dead on arrival at the Lenasia South Hospital. A murder docket has been opened for investigation and efforts to track down the suspects are in full swing.
In another separate incident on Sunday, July 3, the body of a 36-year-old male was discovered by a passer-by in the street in Vlakfontein Proper. The deceased had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and was declared dead at the scene.
According to local residents, several gunshots were heard between between 03:00 and 05:00 in the morning, before the grim discovery was made. The motive for the murder is unknown at this stage and will be subject of police investigations.
