On June 27, the Lenasia SAPS arrested three men aged between 25 and 46 for alleged possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and the possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.

The Lenasia Crime Prevention Unit was performing patrol duties when they received intelligence about men who were allegedly in possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and a stolen motor vehicle in the Thembelihle Informal Settlement.

According to Lenasia SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Bafana Ndimande, the officers proceeded to the address given and found one male inside a red Toyota Conquest which had been reported stolen in Moroka. The male spotted the officers and ran inside a shack. The officers proceeded to the shack and found him with other two men. They introduced themselves and asked for permission to search the shack. Permission was granted. The officers allegedly found two unlicensed pistols and twenty-three rounds of live ammunition. The officers asked for proof of ownership of the firearms, ammunition and the motor vehicle, but the men could not provide them.

The serial numbers on the pistols had been filed off. The males were arrested and detained by the  Lenasia SAPS. They will appear shortly in the Lenasia Magistrates Court. Station Commander Brig. Gopane, applauded the members for the excellent job. He further extended his gratitude to the public for the positive information that led to the recovery of the firearms, ammunition and the motor vehicle, and the arrest of the perpetrators.
