Lenasia South is investigating a case of armed robbery, after a Roots’ butchery outlet, situated at the Golden Highway shopping complex in Lenasia South, was robbed.
Lenasia South spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula, said, “It is alleged that on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at noon, a group of about four armed men who were posing as customers at the butchery overpowered a Fidelity Services group guard as he was making his way to the exit door shortly after collecting cash from the cash office inside the butchery. The perpetrators managed to take a bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash from the guard before they exited the building.”
Sgt Mvula added, “A 43-year-old security guard who was on duty at the butchery was robbed of his firearm by two suspects who were waiting outside while the robbery was in progress. The suspects used a white Ford Ikon and a white Nissan Almera with unknown registration numbers as getaway cars. No gunshots were fired at the scene, and no injuries were reported. Police investigations are underway to trace the suspects.”
