Two Mozambican nationals were apprehended by community members and later handed over to police after being caught red handed attempting to break into a house on Hummingbird Avenue.
The incident unfolded on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 19. The pair attempted to break into the residence with no knowledge that there was someone inside.
According to Lenasia SAPS spokesperson Captain Hector Netshivhodza, the person inside screamed for help.
Fortunately the neighbours heard and responded. The pair then fled the scene, neighbours nearby gave chase and managed to catch them.
“The police came and the community members handed them over to us and we arrested them. They were also caught with an unlicensed firearm,” said Netshivhodza.
They were also assaulted before they were handed over to police.
They were then taken to hospital for treatment under police supervision.
A case of attempted house breaking and possession of an unlicensed firearm was opened.
