On Tuesday, September 15, the Johannesburg Central SAPS arrested a 37-year-old herbalist for rape. The man was apprehended at the corner of Jeppe and Simmmonds streets. Johannesburg Central spokesperson, Captain Xoli Mbele, said, the incident occurred in August, but the victim only had the courage to open the case on September 5.
It is alleged that the victim was contacted by the herbalist to collect the money, which she had invested in his business. “ When she arrived at his work place, the perpetrator told her to take a bath using herbs.
While she was bathing, the suspect came into the room, pulled her out of water, gagged her with a cloth, and then raped her.” It is alleged that after the rape, he threatened the victim and told her if she spoke to anyone about the incident he will set snakes on her,”added Captain Mbele. Johannesburg Central Station Commander, Brigadier Perumal, commended the police on the arrest. He encouraged members of the SAPS to prioritise cases of abuse against women and children.
