On October 8, community patrollers apprehended two suspects, aged 18 and 26 years. The duo was apprehended during the early hours, shortly after they had allegedly committed a burglary at the Igugulethu Primary school in Vlakfontein Extension 1.
Lenasia SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula, said, “Patrollers spotted the pair leaving the school premises. The patrollers caught up with one of the suspects who is 18 years old.The suspect was found to be in possession of a microwave oven, an overhead projector, an oil heater and a soccer ball. Preliminary investigations by the patrollers led them to the suspect’s accomplice, who is 26 years old. Upon searching his room, four Gauteng Department of Education-branded school tablets were recovered. The pair and the seized items were then handed over to the police. The station commander, Colonel Makgomo Maake, applauded the good work done by the patrollers. She stated that the police would be working hard to link the pair to other school burglaries committed during the past few months in the Lenasia South area. Community involvement in the fight against crime would go a long way towards ensuring that communities are seen to be safe.”
