The South African Police Service continues to squeeze the space for drug peddlers in the Lenasia South policing precinct. On February 25, two males, aged 25 and 28 years old respectively,  were taken into custody on drug-related charges.

Lenasia  South spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula, said, “Police officers attached to the Soweto K9 unit acted on a tip-off about alleged drug-related activities taking place at a certain house in Lotus Street,Lenasia South Ext 1. Upon arrival at the said property, the police found two adult males who are the tenants at the property. A search resulted in the recovery of substances that are suspected to be crystal meth and Kat, already packaged in transparent ziploc plastic bags. An undisclosed amount of cash, consisting of naira (Nigerian) bank notes as well as South African bank notes, was  also confiscated as the cash is suspected to be the proceeds of their criminal activities”

“The scourge of drug use in our communities has  devastating consequences if left unpoliced. It results in a sharp increase in offences that are property-related, such as burglaries, theft and robberies, as well as in contact crimes. Members of the public are urged to report suspected criminal activities within their communities so that the proper action can be taken by police to address the situation. The arrested duo is expected to appear at the Lenasia Magistrates Court.”
