In the early hours of Monday, August 6, two men armed with rifles robbed an Engen garage at Zakariyya Park.
According to Sergeant Khalipha Mvula of the Lenasia South SAPS, the men approached the petrol attendants, ordered them to go into the garage shop and told everyone inside the shop to lie down.
The men attached explosive devices to the drop safe and blew it open.
“The men fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. They were seen leaving in two getaway vehicles,” said Sergeant Khalipha Mvula.
No arrests have been made thus far. Police are investigating cases of robbery and of contravention of the Explosives Act.
This is the second robbery to occur at this garage. On July 22 the safe was also blown up. The perpetrators also fled the scene and have not yet been arrested.
