A 37-year-old suspect was arrested and a stolen VW Polo was recovered after a high speed chase by the JMPD Crime Prevention Unit.
“On Thursday, August 9, at about 2pm, JMPD officers were conducting normal crime prevention duties when they received a tracker unit alert about a stolen black VW Polo that was travelling along the Golden Highway, southbound,” said Sergeant Khalipha Mvula of the Lenasia South SAPS.
“The officers went on full alert and spotted the vehicle, which was reported stolen in the Mondeo area, along the Golden Highway next to Lehae.”
The officers signalled the driver to pull off the road, but the driver ignored their orders. Instead, he sped off which resulted in a high speed chase until the vehicle was intercepted along Borage Street in Zakariyya Park, after the driver had lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a wall near a local mosque.
“The driver escaped unharmed and was immediately placed under arrest. He was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and is expected to appear in court,” said Sergeant Mvula.
