“The South African Police Service is investigating a double murder case following the incident that is suspected to be taxi violence related,” said Sergeant Khalipha Mvula of the Soweto West Cluster
It is alleged that on Monday, July 30, taxi owners affiliated to the Ennerdale Taxi Association were monitoring the queue of passengers at the Univille Plots/Phumla Mqashi taxi rank in Lenasia South when two unknown armed suspects approached them and opening fire.
“Two taxi owners, aged 45 and 52,were declared dead at the scene as a result of the gunshot wounds they had sustained.”
According to Sergeant Mvula, no passengers were wounded during the incident.
No arrests have been made at this stage.
