Cash-in-transit heists have increased across the country, with people calling for the harshest of penalties for offenders. Prompted by the increase of these acts, law enforcement agencies are on high alert. On March 15, armed robbers fled empty-handed from Fordsburg’s, Oriental Plaza, after a botched cash-in-transit heist attempt.
The perpetrators fired a few shots before they fled the scene. However, no one was injured.
Lieutenant Kay Makhubela sent a stern message to criminals, he said, “Law enforcement agencies are geared up to root out crime. We would like to assure communities that their safety is the SAPS’ priority. We also like to inform criminals that their days are numbered.”
Lt. Makhubela urged community members to continue giving the SAPS tip-offs about crime.
“We have not made any arrests as yet and make a plea to community members, who have any leads to contact us on 08600 10111, or to contact their nearest police station,” he added.
