A local councillor is currently the talk of the town after a man was killed allegedly by his relatives at a party held in Lenasia South.
A firearm was recovered and two suspects, aged between 32 and 41 years were arrested following the brutal killing of 31-year-old Avinash Manjanu.
The suspects were arrested on the afternoon of Sunday, November 5.

Although speculation is rife around the incident that led to the killing of Manjanu, police confirmed what transpired on the evening of Saturday, November 4.
According to police, it is alleged that the deceased, who was a guest, had been parked outside a Lenasia South Extension 2, Hibiscus street home, where the councillor had hosted a party when an unknown vehicle arrived. The driver of the unknown vehicle alighted from the car and is alleged to have started shooting randomly.
“The deceased whose car, a blue BMW M3, was parked nearby tried to escape and as he was about to drive off he was shot at through the driver’s side window,” Lenasia South SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula said.
Manjanu took off, but the suspect continued to fire at the speeding vehicle. He lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a bend on Falcon Crescent after being shot multiple times.

When police arrived on scene, Manjanu was found seated on the driver’s seat of his bullet riddled car with multiple gunshot wounds on his upper body. He was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
“The firearm that was recovered during the arrest of the suspect’s will be sent for ballistic testing. The arrested suspect’s will appear at the Protea Magistrates’ Court soon,” Mvula said.
The councillor was allegedly taken into witness protection.
Rising Sun could not get comment from the councillor as he had turned state witness.
When the Rising Sun contacted the councillor he asked not to give a comment as he had turned state witness.
