Police have launched a manhunt after a man escaped from the Lenasia Magistrates’ Court on Friday, July 21.
“In the afternoon, 29-years-old Gift Mahlangu, who was facing charges of house breaking as well as kidnapping, made a daring escape at the Lenasia Magistrates’ Court’s courtroom B,” said Sergeant Khalipha Mvula.
A manhunt is underway to track him down and to put Mahlangu back behind bars.
“Police are investigating the circumstances that led to his escape as well as any negligence on the part of the court officials that could have enabled the suspect to escape.”
Police are appealing to anyone who might have information on Mahlangu’s whereabouts to contact their nearest police station or to call the crime stop number on 08600 10 111.
