Pawn shop owners have been warned in the past not to buy goods without proper documentation.
One pawn shop owner learnt the hard way when the police raided and confiscated cell phones worth R100k.
This came as a result of the community members working together with the police.
Johannesburg SAPS spokesperson, Constable Lelimo, said the 36-year-old suspect was arrested in his shop, which is based at corner Wanders and Plain Street, after a tip off from a community member.

Constable Lelimo, said after they received a tip off, they went to the shop with a search warrant and searched the premises.
The owner was asked to provide documentation for the cell phones but failed to.
92 cell phones worth R100K without legal documents were recovered.
“Further investigation is underway, and the suspect will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court,” added Constable Lelimo.

Lelimo also offered a few tips to the pawn shop owners;
