With the drug scourge sweeping over the Lenasia community, the heights to which one would go to get their next fix, never ceases to surprise.
What was reported as a kidnapping, soon saw the tables turn on the so-called kidnapping victim.

A 31-year-old woman, who was reported missing, when she was found, is alleged to have been a part of the kidnapping plot.
The woman and her daughter was initially reported missing by her husband, when he could not find them at their Gladioli Street home, on February 27,
When the man returned from work on the day, his wife and 6-year-old daughter were nowhere to be found.
After making calls to family and friends in a bid to locate his wife, he went to the Lenasia Police Station to open a missing person’s case and to seek assistance from the cops.
The following day, February 28, the man began receiving texts and calls from his wife’s cellphone.
The content of the texts and calls had been that his wife and daughter had been kidnapped. He was ordered to pay R4 000 to secure their safe return.

The alleged kidnappers told him he could pay the ransom in instalments.
Without hesitation the man returned to the police station with the information. A kidnapping case was then opened.
Through police investigations, the suspected kidnappers were arrested in Lenasia South.
It, however, later emerged that the suspects had been the woman’s ex-boyfriend, her sister-in-law and a friend.
The so called victim was also arrested and charged with extortion.
It was also revealed that the money would have been used to purchase drugs.
