Following a shootout which resulted in the death of a 36-yaer-old Zakarriyya Park man, police are seeking help from community members with information pertaining to the suspects.
The shooting was a result of a carjacking in the area’s Peppercorn Street on Wednesday, February 15.
According to Lenasia South Saps spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula, two men accosted the man who had been entering his driveway at around 10.50pm on the day in question.
“The unknown suspects started opening fire on the victim while he was still inside the vehicle,” Mvula said.
In an attempt to flee to safety, the victim allegedly alighted from the vehicle but he was again shot at several times before he collapsed and fell next to his vehicle.

The suspects are then alleged to have fled the scene in the victim’s maroon Opel Corsa Lite. The car was then abandoned a few houses away and the suspects fled on foot. The victim was certified dead at the scene by paramedics.
“Police are appealing to the members of the public who witnessed this brutal killing or who might have information about the whereabouts of the suspect’s to come forward with the information by calling the crime stop number on 08600 10111 or contacting their local police station.”

“We as police also encourage the members of the public to report anonymously by sending an sms with full details of the crime committed to the crime line on 32211,” he said.
A case of murder and carjacking is being investigated.
“…we’ll leave no stone unturned until the culprits are arrested and brought to book and to face the full might of the law,” Mvula concluded.
