Lenasia Police arrested four suspects, aged between 25 and 35, on Friday, October 2, at corner Rose Avenue and R554 after a task team was deployed to monitor the area.
The four are believed to be chain and hand bag snatchers operating in the Lenasia CBD.
The suspects were arrested after a task team was formed, dressed in private clothes, to monitor the hot spot.
“Our team spotted the four men loitering around the vicinity, the police searched them and found dangerous weapons on them,” said captain Hector Netshivhodza of the Lenasia SAPS.
According to Captain Netshivhodza, two suspects were in possession of pangas and the other two in possession of knives.
“We are appealing to victims of chain and handbag snatching, that occurred at the hot spot, to come forward and assist the police in linking the suspects to the crimes,” Captain Neshivhodza added.
The victims can report to the Lenasia police station and speak to Colonel Thonyama, head of detectives at the Lenasia SAPS.
