A 52-year-old security guard was arrested on charges of rape following the alleged rape of an 18-year-old young man on Sunday, June 19 at Global Jewellery Academy at Lenasia Extension 10.
According to police, the suspect was arrested after the victim reported the matter to his interpreter.
“The victim was raped inside the laundry premises of the academy,” said Captain Hector Netshivhodza of the Lenasia SAPS.
Robert Buys (the centre manager) said the academy is aware of the rape allegation and will release a statement in about two weeks’ time as the matter is still under investigation.
According to the Global Jewellery Academy website, the academy is one of the vehicles whose purpose is to address the socio-economic status of the people living with disabilities (PWD’s) especially the Youth.
Their website further mentions that the uniqueness of the programme is that they cater for a variety of disabilities such as those wheelchair bound, the deaf, and youth with learning disabilities.
“The suspect will appear at court soon,” added Netshivhodza.
