Three men were arrested after they attempted to hijack a state vehicle on the corner of Bangalore and the K43 in Lenasia on Wednesday, March 23.
According Sergeant Khalipa Mvula of the Lenasia South SAPS, two policemen who were travelling in an unmarked state-owned white VW Polo, halted at a stop sign, when they were approached by the trio.
“One of them jumped in front of the vehicle and the other two accosted the SAPS Vispol members in the vehicle. One suspect pointed at our members with a firearm,” said Mvula.
The policemen retaliated by pulling out their own firearms and ordering the suspects to lie flat on the ground.
The trio were searched. However, the firearm found in their possession was a toy.
“The suspects were arrested and charged with attempted vehicle hijacking. No shots were fired and no one has been reported injured,” added Mvula.
He commends the police for their swift work. The trio will be appearing in court soon.
